NextImg:Knicks fans rip Candace Parker for Jalen Brunson dig: ‘The disrespect and lies’

Knicks fans didn’t let Candace Parker get away with this mistake.

Parker, the “NBA on TNT” analyst, said Tuesday night that Jalen Brunson did not play well in the Knicks’ Eastern Conference semifinals series loss to the Heat last year.

“When the game slows down in the playoffs, and you get jammed up, we’ve seen Jalen Brunson in the playoffs with the [Mavericks], and he was No. 2, No. 3, came in, played minutes, supplemented Luka [Doncic] handling the ball, but as a No. 1 option last year in the playoffs, great first round, second round not so much,” Parker said before the Knicks’ 108-103 road win over the Nets.

A deeper look at the numbers, though, tells a different story.

Brunson averaged 24 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while leading the Knicks to a sweep over the Cavaliers in the first round.

Against Miami in the second round, Brunson actually upped those numbers to 31 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.

The Knicks fell to Miami in six games, but Brunson didn’t deserve blame for that loss.

Knicks fans, predictably, torched Parker on X.

“The DISRESPECT AND LIES about Brunson is PATHETIC!,” the @EverythinKnicks account tweeted.

“Jalen Brunson played better in round 2 and averaged 31 points, 6 assists on 50% from the field … Did you even watch the playoffs? Or maybe look up the stats before saying something so off base? This is embarrassing @Candace_Parker,” tweeted @MarshallGreen_ of Chat Sports.

Parker also said she agreed with Becky Hammon’s assessment that the 6-foot-2 guard is not the lead option on a championship team.

It seemed that part of her knock on Brunson is that his defense is lacking, which may have influenced her view on his performance against Miami.

“I do think that, also, we’re talking about offensively. but defensively as well – If we look at what the Warriors had to do with Steph Curry in their runs, defensively, they had to have other top defenders around him,” Parker said.
