Three first-round NBA playoff rematches from last season take place this week, including Tuesday’s matchup with the Cavaliers welcoming the Knicks to Cleveland.
If the New York/Cleveland playoff series was entered in any kind of beauty pageant, chances are it wouldn’t be wearing the crown.
The Knicks knocked the Cavaliers out in five low-scoring games of the first round last season, while limiting Cleveland to less than 100 points in all four wins.
Fast-forward to this season and each team is off to a 1-2 start.
The Cavaliers slipped past the Nets in the opener, 114-113, but lost the next two games at home to the Thunder and Pacers.
Cleveland is banged up at the moment as guard Darius Garland missed the past two games, while star Donovan Mitchell sat out the loss to Indiana.
The Knicks lost a close one to Boston at home in the opener before bouncing back with a road win at Atlanta. The Knicks fell Saturday on the second end of that back-to-back set in New Orleans, 96-87, as New York managed only 12 points in the first quarter.
This is actually a home-and-home set on Tuesday and Wednesday with the first game in Cleveland and then at the Garden for the back end.
Having Mitchell and Garland in the lineup for the Cavs is obviously a difference-maker, but there could be points scored here regardless as Cleveland hasn’t been great defensively so far.
