Klay Thompson’s days with the Golden State Warriors could be numbered.
The four-time NBA champion is set to become an unrestricted free agent and may be bolting from the Bay Area if the Warriors don’t cough up the money he thinks he deserves.
Injuries have stripped Thompson of the player he once was, but his shooting and length would be welcome on any team in the NBA.
And with several teams expected to have cap space, Thompson will have suitors lining up to give him one last big-time payday.
Here’s a look at what uniform oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook could see Thompson in come the 2024-25 NBA season.
Klay Thompson next team odds |
---|
Golden State Warriors -150 |
Orlando Magic +300 |
Philadelphia 76ers 16/1 |
Los Angeles Lakers 16/1 |
Oklahoma City Thunder 16/1 |
Dallas Mavericks 16/1 |
The Warriors, the only pro team Thompson has ever known, are still expected to retain Thompson, but plenty of other teams are evidently in the mix.
If Thompson departs Golden State after 11 seasons, four championships and six NBA Finals appearances, he’s likely to seek out a winning situation, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

“Thompson wants to win,” Slater wrote. “Don’t expect him to chase the largest possible offer from the Detroit Pistons or Charlotte Hornets, even if that’s the correct financial or leverage move. But there are plenty of cap-space teams with a clearer upward path to contention than the Warriors. That includes the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.”
The Magic, who went 47-35 before a first-round exit at the hands of the Cavaliers, are given the top shot at luring Thompson away from the Warriors.
One of the youngest teams in the NBA, Orlando could use a veteran shooter like Thompson to help lead its defensive-mind core.
Two cap space teams anticipated to be big players in the free agent market – the 76ers and Thunder – are also in the Thompson conversation.
Although it would likely take a sign-and-trade scenario, the Mavericks and Lakers are also intriguing destinations for Thompson as he would slot in as a perfect complement to each team’s pair of superstar players.
