NextImg:Kirk Herbstreit’s dog poops during $250K Pat McAfee contest in wild live moment

Kirk Herbstreit’s newest travel companion isn’t the most well-behaved he’s ever had.

Herbstreit’s golden retriever, Peter, did his business during Pat McAfee’s field goal contest on “College GameDay,” getting some unseemly attention as a result.

“Peter is taking a dump in the middle of the field-goal kicking contest,” McAfee said on-air. “Sniff it in, Logan. That is Peter’s manure. Now, through manure, great things grow. Will Peter’s poop grow you $250,000?”

Logan, the contestant, did in fact nail the field goal and earn a quarter of a million dollars.

The bad news is that amid the celebration, during which he was mobbed by Herbstreit and actor Glen Powell, among others, Logan stepped into the manure.

“I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news,” McAfee said. “You definitely stepped in Peter’s poop during your celebration, but who cares? Buy yourself some new shoes.”

Peter has become a regular companion on the road for Herbstreit after Ben, his old emotional support dog, sadly died last year. That prompted an outpouring of support around the college football world, as Ben had become a social media star and a constant presence by Herbstreit’s side. Then-President Joe Biden even sent Herbstreit a letter expressing condolences.

Herbstreit has a total of four golden retrievers, whom he regularly features on Instagram, and usually travels with one to “GameDay.” Most of the time, Peter gets the call to go on the road.

For the most part, the dogs are well-behaved, though it was a tough moment for Peter on Saturday morning.

Still, it will likely only add to the virality for Herbstreit’s dogs. And given that the segment ended with a winning kick, the whole thing could have been much worse.
