A kindergartner was killed and his mom injured when they were struck by a school bus while walking to school in Westchester County on Thursday morning, according to sources and reports.

The boy and his mother were about half a block from their Mamaroneck elementary school shortly after 8:30 a.m. when they were hit – killing the youngster, according to sources and lodhud.com.

The outlet did not identify the vehicle involved, but News12 identified it as a mini-school bus.

“There is nothing more difficult for a community to experience than a loss of life and we know that everyone in the Mamaroneck and Larchmont communities is heartbroken by this news,” school district officials said in a message to parents obtained by The Post.

“We also know the death of a child is particularly difficult for other children to process,” the message said. “At this time, we have informed our staff of this incredible loss and social workers and psychologists are fully deployed at [the Mamaroneck Avenue School].”

The boy and his mother were not immediately identified, nor was the driver of the bus, who remained at the scene on Mamaroneck Avenue, according to the sources.

One bystander told lohud that he was leaving mass at nearby St. Vito’s Catholic Church when he heard the two pedestrians being hit.

“There was nothing I could do at that time,” John Hunter said. “It was just catastrophic.”

Mamaroneck Village police and village officials did not respond to requests for comment from The Post.
