Tom Sandoval, Olivia Wilde, and now Kendall Jenner! Who hasn’t Kim Kardashian shaded on American Horror Story: Delicate?
The third episode of the season – titled “When the Bough Breaks” – was a bit of a snoozefest. The episode, rumored to only be 38 minutes long, was packed with commercials and fluff scenes and seriously lacked quality time with Kardashian’s snappy publicist Siobhan Corbyn, who has quickly become a season favorite.
Rather than harp on what did… or well, didn’t… happen in this week’s episode, let’s shine a light on the shadiest moment in the short runtime.
Kardashian slyly referenced her younger sister’s infamous cucumber-cutting snafu during a scene where Siobhan was preparing the “green goddess dressing that went viral on TikTok” for her troubled client, Anna Victoria Alcott, played by Emma Roberts.
As Siobhan slices a cucumber, Anna takes a bite and exclaims, “This is orgasmic!” For once, the actor doesn’t have a pained expression on her face. That is, until Siobhan says, “So, you feel crazy? You have that hunted look – same thing I had after I had my miscarriage.”
While the publicist shares her experience to comfort Anna, she continues to cut the cucumber. The sounds of the sharp knife hitting the cutting board ring throughout the dialogue, and one close-up of Kardashian’s chopping technique isn’t enough. No, the camera purposefully makes sure to get in a few shots of her slicing that cuke up like a pro. We get it, Kim! You know how to cut a cucumber, unlike your sister.
Jenner made headlines in May 2022 for struggling to slice a cucumber during an episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians. In the scene, Kris Jenner watches in concern as Jenner struggles with hand placement while preparing her meal. Jenner does everything but the right thing: she crosses her arms strategically, she tries to cut from different angles, she picks at the fruit — slice after slice. “I’m definitely not a good cutter, so don’t zoom in on me,” she warns to the camera.
But the damage was done – Jenner had opened the floodgates to hundreds of thousands of social media comments, videos on TikToks, and headlines on entertainment outlets. “Kendall Jenner doesn’t know how to cut a cucumber,” everybody exclaimed.
The reality star and model commented on the backlash in a 2023 interview with the Wall Street Journal, saying, “Let me just say I successfully cut the cucumber. So if anyone says I cannot cut cucumber, I physically cut the cucumber and I did it tastefully. I didn’t hurt anybody. So I can cut cucumbers.”
Whatever you say, girlie! As for now, social media is in giggles, again, over the reference in the recent American Horror Story: Delicate episode. One viewer wrote, “Not Kim cutting [a] cucumber LMFAO AHS knows exactly what they’re doing” and another added, “Kim cutting a cucumber on #AHSDelicate!! The Kendall shade!”
Who knows what’ll happen next week! Maybe Kardashian will sing Kylie Jenner’s “rise and shine” song that broke the internet in 2019. All we know is that Siobhan’s antics are, surprisingly, the only reason to return to the show every week.
