WASHINGTON — Going once, going twice…

House Republicans made it rain Tuesday when House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s “used” Chapstick was put on auction to raise money for GOP campaign efforts.

McCarthy (R-Calif.) took a break from debt ceiling negotiations with the White House for the unusual fundraiser for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) placed the winning bid for $100,000.

The premise of the auction was a joke, but the pledge by Greene seemed to be real, sources told The Post.

The bizarre episode occurred at a Republican conference meeting on Capitol Hill where NRCC pledges were on the agenda.

Freshman Rep. Aaron Bean (R-Fla.), a former auctioneer, led the bidding.

Although the item was purported to be used by McCarthy, sources told The Post it actually was an unused Bean-branded campaign trinket — and that the entire premise was a gag.

It’s unclear if Greene knew the chapstick was unused.

Politico reporter Olivia Beavers, who first reported on the unusual auction, tweeted that there were multiple bids, and that Greene ultimately won after McCarthy sweetened the deal by throwing in a seat for the winner at an important donor dinner.

The Post was not immediately able to identify other bidders.

Greene’s office did not respond to an inquiry about what she intends to do with the Chapstick.

Democrats, joined by some Republicans, removed Greene from her committee assignments in 2021 over controversial social-media activity, including “liking” a post that said then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) should be executed, and her past adherence to a variety of conspiracy theories, some of which she later disavowed, saying she was misinformed.

Greene emerged as a key ally to McCarthy in January, when she consistently supported his candidacy as he calmed a rebellion by 20 House conservatives who forced 15 ballots in the House speaker’s election before relenting.

McCarthy’s staff are currently negotiating with White House representatives to reach a spending cuts agreement in exchange for raising the nation’s debt ceiling.

The Treasury Department says the debt ceiling must be raised by early June to avoid a federal default.

House Republicans last month passed legislation to raise the debt ceiling in exchange for cuts including a clawback of unused COVID-19 funds and an agreement to constrain future spending increases.

The White House until recently refused to negotiate, saying Congress must raise the debt limit without conditions.
