Kevin Durant has never been shy about clapping back at his critics on social media, and he was back at it again this week.
This time his target was podcaster and “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” cast member Jason McIntyre.
The Phoenix Suns star and former Brooklyn Net did not seem to take too kindly to McIntyre saying that one of the game’s best players needed to get a life instead of worrying about what was being said about him on social media.
Durant got wind of what McIntyre said and apparently messaged the sports talker.
“When you say something not so nice you get this: ‘You’re such a clown. You don’t even like sports. You look like a drama major,’” McIntyre told his audience Durant messaged him.
“I don’t know what that means. I’ve never taken an acting class in my life,” McIntyre, who hosts the “Straight Fire” podcast, continued. “I said to KD, ‘one of the 15 best players in the history of the NBA squabbling with anonymous fools in a comment section, it was never your brand when you won the MVP and two titles and Finals MVPs. Why pivot that way now?’”
“He just got personal. ‘You’re a fool, blah, blah, blah. He used the ‘P Word’ to describe me. He calls me ‘broke boy.’ Doesn’t address any of it.”
All of this started after Durant entered a Twitter spaces debate titled “Kevin Durant is not top 5.”
The NBA superstar called the way they “look at the game” as “whack as f–k.”
McIntyre, who described himself as a fan of Durant, went on to criticize him for doing so and telling him he needed to get out and have fun and “forget about what jabronis are saying on social media.”
Durant has faced plenty of criticism for his handling of social media and how he’s dealt with criticism in general in the media.
He has fired back at the likes of Hall of Famer Charles Barkley’s comments on TV and pushed back against Nets fans on Twitter that have taken issue with his time in Kings County and the way he left.
Now with the Suns, Durant is in a prime position to help take them to the NBA Finals after the team traded for Bradley Beal this offseason.
That means the expectations will be high on him and his team and potentially more critics to push back against.
