Kelly Ripa opened up about a hilarious slip-up involving Live with Kelly and Mark‘s Vegas staff — or rather, not involving them at all.
This morning, she and Mark Consuelos confessed to viewers that they may have been “a little tired” after attending the Live staff party the night before.
“So we have a very tiny, small staff at Live back in New York,” Ripa explained, as Consuelos clarified, “compared to most shows.”
Ripa continued, “We’re just a tiny, little, baby show with tiny, little, baby staff.”
A couple claps emerged from the audience as Consuelos chimed in, “We’re the little engine that could.”
Ripa then quipped, “Those applause are the applause of our staff, applauding themselves. The three claps that you heard.”
She shared that upon arriving in Vegas, their staff grew to incorporate “a whole new group of [additional] producers, and additional support staff and camera operators and set designers.”
Consuelos teased, “There’s a guy that just runs the elevator.”
Ripa noted that they weren’t familiar with all of the new Vegas staff additions “by face or by name” yet.
“So last night was a great way to get to know everybody and say thank you,” she shared.

Describing it as “a beautiful, private event” at “a gorgeous circular bar” called Collin’s, Ripa recalled seeing three girls who she assumed were members of their team.
“And they must be producers or segment producers, or maybe they’re in hair and make-up. I’m not sure,” she rehashed. “But I walk over and I say, ‘Hey, I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you’re doing for our show.’ And they went, ‘Oh my god! We’re such fans!’ And I went, uh-oh, they definitely don’t work for the show.”
Eventually, she realized that they “were just people that were at the bar that wandered in.”
“And they were at the staff cocktail party, and I’m thanking them for their service!” she exclaimed.
We have to credit Ripa — sounds like she’s a good boss, even to those who aren’t on her payroll.
