Kelly Ripa had the best response to “nepo babies” falling under a projection of this year’s most popular Halloween costumes. On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the longtime host joked that her kids can “go as themselves.”

At the start of today’s opening chat, Mark Consuelos read off a list of hot new trends for this spooky season. From Barbie and Ken, to Wednesday Addams, to M3GAN, there weren’t too many shocking ideas — until he read “nepo babies” from the list, which prompted Ripa to shade her own kids.

“Oh fun! Oh, my gosh. We can just have our kids go as themselves. Come on! We’re going trick-or-treating,” she joked, to which Consuelos added, “‘What should we wear?’ Nothing.”

The longtime married couple — who tied the knot in 1996 — share three children: Michael, 26, Lola, 22, and Joaquin, 20.

Speaking of their kids, the talk of Halloween costumes reminded Ripa of the time they backed out of dressing as Super Mario Bros characters at the last second — even though they were gifted handmade outfits.

“I was on Hope & Faith and we had a great costume department. They handmade my kids Mario and Luigi and Princess Peach costumes and they were incredible,” Ripa recalled. “On the day of Halloween, my kids were like, ‘We don’t want to be this anymore! We just want to wear our pajamas!'”

She added, “I was just like, crushed. I was crushed!”

The co-hosts are no stranger to embarrassing their kids. In fact, earlier this week, Ripa broke her promise to their daughter, who was sitting in the Live audience, by putting her on camera. It all started when Consuelos gushed over his ability to catch his kids in lies.

“Lola, could you get stuff over on me or was I a very good interrogator?” Consuelos asked, to which she replied, “I could.”

After their daughter hid her face behind her hands and rolled her eyes at her parents, Ripa revealed that Lola never intended to be on live television when she decided to join them at work.

“She literally said to me, ‘If I sit in the audience, you’re not gonna put me on camera, right?’ I swear, I promise I won’t, Lola,” Ripa said. “That’s not our daughter Lola. That’s a different Lola. That’s a friend of hers also named Lola.”
