NextImg:Kelly Ripa Sarcastically Slams Mark Consuelos On ‘Live’ As “The Best Worst Souvenir Shopper Ever”: “Nothing Says ‘I Love You’ Like A Tablespoon Full Of Orange Marmalade”

Some people just don’t have a gift for picking out the perfect souvenirs for their loved ones. According to Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos is just not one of those people. On this morning’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa deemed Consuelos “the best worst souvenir shopper ever.”

Consuelos attempted to defend his name by sharing a story of selecting a souvenir for his wife and co-host while he was in Spain with their son, Joaquin.

“We were coming back and we were in the airport, and I go, ‘I have to bring back Kelly something,” he recalled.

While he considered bringing her back “a Spanish ham” (which elicited plenty of laughs from the audience), he said he ultimately decided against it because “that’s against the rules.”

“What else are you going to bring back from Spain?” he continued. “A flamenco dancer? Maybe!”

However, he settled on something he believed to be “very sensible.”

“She drinks coffee everyday,” he noted. “I brought her back a Spain cup with a little bull on it.”

While the audience seemed to consider that a sweet gesture, Ripa’s expression said otherwise, which Consuelos pointed out.

“And that’s the face I got when I brought it back!” he quipped.

Ripa argued, “Nothing says ‘airport present’ like a coffee cup. Nothing says ‘I put no thought into this and our 7-year-old son thought you might like something from Spain,’ like a cup that says ‘España’ with a bull on it!”

Consuelos proceeded to read out the top souvenirs that people purchase for their loved ones while traveling, which included “a local grocery item.”

“I brought you back some little jams from Campobasso,” he told Ripa, who fired back that they were “straight from the hotel room.”

While Consuelos said that they “were from the Campobasso shop” in town, Ripa still wasn’t convinced.

“They make hotel-sized jams and jellies?” she asked, claiming that Consuelos must have asked himself, ‘What can I fit in my carry-on bag?'”

Consuelos strengthened his stance on the argument, saying, “Here’s the thing! It used to be you went to Italy, you went to these places, and you’d get a certain candy that only existed there, but you can get all that stuff anywhere! Gucci, Prada, Armani, it’s all down the street!”

Ripa quipped that next time he should “try Gucci, Prada, or Armani.”

Consuelos continued his rant, citing the example of Toblerone, a chocolate that you could previously only get abroad, but now can purchase online and receive within “25 minutes.”

“It’s ruined that special thing, so since it’s ruined it, I’m not gonna participate!” he added.

Nonetheless, Ripa had to get in one last jab.

“Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a tablespoon full of orange marmalade,” she joked.
