This morning on Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa exposed Mark Consuelos‘ sleeping habits, revealing that he has difficulty sleeping through the night because he is”snoozing so early.”
“So what you’re doing is, when you fall asleep at 7 p.m. for five hours, that’s really a five-hour nap you’re taking before bedtime!” she explained.
While Consuelos claimed it’s his “pre-sleep,” which Ripa admitted was valid, she noted that he tends to take the term to the extreme. She recalled recently taking a ten-minute nap before recording her podcast, which she ultimately feared would “disrupt [her] sleep.”
“He will do that, but for five hours!” she exclaimed to the audience, noting that her husband and co-host ultimately gets “11 hours of sleep” with his “pre-sleep” practice.
Consuelos fired back with another news story suggesting ways to “counter the harmful effects of sitting,” which the two co-hosts deemed “the new smoking.” Consuelos explained that researchers have suggested “so many better things to do than to sit.”
With a smirk on his face, he read aloud, “So, just swapping 30 minutes of sitting for 30 minutes of sleeping!”
Ripa chimed in, “Just the 30 minutes, dear!” Meanwhile, Consuelos danced around in his chair. He justified his sleeping habits as being a healthy alternative to sitting, sharing that his “circulation is better” than if he were sitting.
Ripa pointed out that the study recommended many other physical activities that are better alternatives to dozing off.
“As Americans, if our alternative to curing ourselves from 30 minutes of sitting is 30 minutes of laying down, we have gone off the cliff!” she joked.
After name-dropping some exercise options, Consuelos concluded, “But, if you’re smart, you just lay down and take a nap.”
He eventually revealed that he took a 45-minute-long nap before dinner the night before, which allowed him to “stay up the rest of the night.” Ripa took a jab at his prideful comment, critiquing how it “was a shocking thing that [he] stayed awake until 11 p.m.”
“That should not be fascinating, that should be normal!” she chided. “Most people don’t go to bed before Jeopardy!“
