It turns out that Mark Consuelos has been embracing “Grandma core” for quite some time.

While the Riverdale alum was missing from Thursday morning’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa chatted with guest co-host Carson Kressley about the burgeoning trend among teens of “taking up grandma hobbies for their mental health.”

“Let me tell you something. As a long participant in grandma hobbies, knitting, to me is… like, if you want to quit snacking, if you want to quit smoking, if you want to quit drinking…”

Kressley chimed in, “Or just quit thinking.”

Ripa agreed, adding, “Knitting is the way in.”

She read that “the “grandma core aesthetic” is “trending on social media,” citing quilting, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, crafting, baking, canning, book clubs, and board games as some popular pastimes. Eventually, Kressley brought viewers’ attention to an activity he would not necessarily endorse.

“I draw the line at birdwatching. I mean, you’ve really got to be bored at that point,” he quipped.

However, Ripa insisted that “it depends,” revealing that Consuelos is a fan of the pastime.

“I know it would surprise people, but Mark is a birder,” she shared.

Stunned, Kressley asked, “Does he have binoculars and a little pith helmet?”

Ripa confirmed that Consuelos does have binoculars, but no pith helmet, and that he enjoys spotting “roadrunners and birds that he’s not typically used to seeing” when they are on the West Coast.

“He will literally, like, grab me out of bed and he’s like, ‘Come here! You gotta see this!'” she added.

Kressley teased, “I just saw a yellow-bellied roadrunner tip-swallow!”
