Kelly Ripa never misses an opportunity to bring up Mark Consuelos‘ dating history. On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the longtime host revealed the one way she reminds her husband of his ex-girlfriends.
It all started during a conversation about “signature scents” of different states, leaving Ripa to label New Jersey with the smell of “tomatoes” and “funnel cakes,” while Consuelos added that Florida — where he lived at a point in his life — smells of “sulfur.”
The discussion reminded Ripa of one signature scent she uses that gives Consuelos a blast from his past: her sunscreen. In fact, it’s the only sun protection she can get their kids to wear because they like the smell of it.
“Somehow I’ve convinced Lola, particularly, I’m like, ‘Oh, this sunscreen has self-tanner in it,'” she said. “Lies. But I’m so desperate to get her to wear sunscreen that I tell her it has self-tanner in it — so it’s tanning her while it’s protecting her.”
Ripa explained that the sunscreen smells like “coconuts,” before telling the audience what her husband tells her each time she wears it.
“Every time I put it on, he’s like, ‘You smell like my ex-girlfriend.’ And I go which one? And he goes, ‘All of them,'” she joked.
Despite chiming in and saying, “All of them,” in unison with his wife, Consuelos denied that he ever compared her to an ex-girlfriend.
“That’s not what I say. I say you smell like Clearwater Beach, Florida … There’s this smell as soon as you hit Clearwater Beach — it’s not sunblock, it’s suntan oil,” he said, to which Ripa fired back, “That is not what you say.”
This is hardly the first time the married couple of 27 years has brought up Consuelos’ past. On a May 2023 episode of Live, Ripa speculated that his longest relationship before her only lasted “four months.” However, Consuelos — who admitted that he “wasn’t good in relationships” — insisted that it was that his wife was cutting him short.
“I had some, like, maybe year — I don’t think I’ve had more than a year and a half,” he said. “That was like my longest relationship. You know? Like a nice sweater.”
