Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa might always dress to impress, but not everyone shares the same attitude — even some of her co-workers. This morning on Live with Kelly and Mark, she and Mark Consuelos discussed whether or not men can wear shorts to the office.

“Well, certainly around here, that’s a fat yes,” she deadpanned, as the cameras honed in on one of Live‘s cameramen — identified by Consuelos as John — who was wearing shorts.

Noting that dress codes have become more casual post-pandemic, Ripa asked if it was appropriate to wear a baseball cap to work.

Consuelos quickly pointed out that John was also wearing a baseball cap, to which Live‘s EP Michael Gelman chimed in from off-camera, “You hit the jackpot, John.”

Ripa then offered her take, saying, “Unless you are in the music industry, or a camera operator, or a stage manager, you have no business wearing a baseball cap in the office.”

Ripa quipped, “I know you think it makes you look cool,” as viewers caught a glimpse of another crew member named Julian donning a baseball cap.

Consuelos then interjected, claiming that it “keeps Julian’s head warm,” as Ripa insisted that she “said he can wear it.”

“But there are people, like, wandering around law offices with their sneakers on and their baseball caps and their suit,” she clarified.

Consuelos joked, “Yeah, but it usually says ‘Harvard’ or ‘Yale’ on it. Because they want to remind everybody that they went to school.”

Ripa proceeded to share more results from a survey about proper workplace attire, revealing that “92%” said you can wear jewelry. As for wearing shorts to the office, “58% of the respondents said it’s fine for anyone to flash a thigh,” and with respect to footwear, “73% say yes” to wearing sneakers and sandals.

“This is kind of amazing to me,” she mused. “I feel like we’ve just collectively stopped trying. I still try to, you know, I try to look nice for you guys.”

In response, she received a round of applause, to which she joked, “You’re welcome.”
