Mark Consuelos was awarded some Oscars advice on this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.
After the Oscar nominations were unveiled earlier today, Consuelos and Kelly Ripa announced some of the major categories, leading Consuelos to ponder if he would be working the annual awards show as Live co-host.
“Are we gonna be there for the Oscars?” he asked Live EP Michael Gelman, who confirmed that he and Ripa will be in attendance and that they “have a big announcement coming very soon.”
Suddenly, Consuelos was hit with a rude awakening.
“Wait a minute,” he hesitated. “I usually go as a plus-one so I can go to all the parties. I don’t have to go to work the next day.”
But Gelman reminded him, “You’re a working guy. You’re working it!”
Ripa teased Consuelos that his “fun at the Oscars officially ended recently.” After Consuelos — who is in his very first year as Live co-host — asked if he would be backstage with Ripa, she joked that he “would be backstage in lieu” of her.
“And I’m going to go to the parties!” she quipped, much to Consuelos’ dismay. When Ripa wondered why she’s the one who has to “work all the time,” Consuelos remarked that she’s “so good at talking to those people after.”
Ripa then issued some words of wisdom to Consuelos ahead of his Oscars Live debut.

“They’re Academy Award winners, they tell you anything that you didn’t even ask,” she shared.
Consuelos suggested that the winners are “not in their bodies” after their victories, which Ripa affirmed, adding, “they’re not in the right headspace.”
“You’re gonna get invited to more things, you’re gonna be asked to star in more movies than ever,” she warned Consuelos. “They don’t mean it. They just blather nonsense because they’ve just won an Academy Award. So they tell you all kinds of crazy stuff that’s not true, that they don’t mean! But it really is like a psychological study.”
