Kelly Ripa has found herself deep in culinary controversy.
On Tuesday’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa admitted she “inadvertently” stirred the pot on Monday’s (Nov. 25) episode after citing a Better Homes & Gardens article distinguishing “stuffing” and “dressing.” While she argued that she did not write the article and urged critics not to “shoot the messenger,” Ripa claimed that “the messenger was attacked viciously.”
“I mean, forget any political discourse,” she quipped. “The real discourse are the people arguing about stuffing and dressing.”
She reiterated that the “article says regionally, it depends on where you’re from whether you call it ‘stuffing’ or ‘dressing.'”
“But you, you at home, informed me that I, Kelly Ripa, am wrong again!” she exclaimed.
Mark Consuelos chimed in to ask her what the difference is, prompting Ripa to read aloud the “sanitized” responses she received as opposed to those she got on social media. However, she made sure to issue a statement to those who were fired up online.
“I’m going to say something. Get a life. Honestly,” she said. “Just get one. Calm down. If you’re worried about this, then congratulations! You don’t have actual problems.”
Ripa proceeded to share some of said “sanitized” responses, including one from a Pittsburgh resident who said they were “taught that dressing is cooked outside of the turkey, and stuffing is cooked inside of the turkey.”
Another response came from a member of a Pennsylvania Dutch family who claimed that they call the dish “filling.” She later read aloud a message from someone whose daughter went to college in the South.
“Imagine her confusion when the cafeteria worker asked her if she wanted gravy on her dressing, and she replied, ‘No thank you. Why would anyone want gravy on their salad?'” Ripa continued. “Don’t @ me! These are your responses!”
Eventually, Consuelos asked if there are “different materials” involved in stuffing versus dressing, which Ripa denied.
“No, all the same materials, except for the people today who say foul things to me on social media,” she joked. “They’ll come up with all kinds of different things… It’s up for debate. But thank you for setting me straight, internet!”
