Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos heard more about Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco‘s love story on Friday’s Live with Kelly and Mark.

On the topic of Gomez and Blanco’s album I Said I Love You First, which was released in March, Ripa couldn’t help but quietly ask Gomez if she was the one to say I love you first. After Gomez nodded her head in confirmation, Ripa and Consuelos leaned in with excitement.

“You did?” Ripa asked. “You said it first?”

With a huge smile on her face, Gomez replied, “I did.”

Citing her own experience, Ripa inquired as to whether it was “on purpose or by accident.”

“The reason I ask this is because he told me he loved me, but it was by accident,” Ripa said of Consuelos. “It fell out of his mouth accidentally.”

Consuelos said “it felt real,” while Gomez told Ripa, “But I think he knew.”

Ripa added, “Well, yeah, you know, but sometimes it just comes out before you know it.”

However, Gomez claimed she messed with how their initial “I love yous” went down, even though it ultimately resulted in a special moment.

“No, honestly, I just ruined it,” she shared. “I ruined it for him. He was so lovely about it and tried to plan something, and I was sitting there, bragging about, oh, well, my best friend’s boyfriend just said, you know, that he loves her… it was just so ridiculous. So at the end of the night, I was like, ‘I love you! Okay, I love you.’ And it was… you know, it was sweet.”

As for his reaction, Gomez said he initially “laughed.”

“And then I was like, ooh,” she teased. “But then he, of course, he said it back, because I knew he was trying to. I just, I put a damper on the whole thing.”

Ripa insisted, “No, he was planning on it. He just didn’t know when to come out with it.”
