Kelly Ripa has been waking up at some ungodly hour for decades now in order to get herself ready for her job as a morning TV talk show host, but even she suffers from a lack of sleep and subsequent exhaustion sometimes.
On yesterday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa and her co-host, husband Mark Consuelos, revealed that they were more exhausted than usual on Wednesday, having been woken up at 2 a.m. with the New York City Fire Department at their door.
“Good morning, guys, we’re a little tired, we did not get a lot of rest,” Ripa told the audience. “Last night we had an incident — I’m not gonna name names, but the fire department came.”
“There’s nothing like being awakened at 2 a.m. by the alarm going off,” Consuelos added.
The couple said that around two in the morning at their New York City home, multiple fire alarms sounded off, and Consuelos couldn’t remember the code to deactivate them.
After calling the alarm company and unsuccessfully attempting several codes, including their usual internet passwords and their safe word (lolz), the fire department showed up at their door and helped them deactivate all of the alarms, including one that was apparently not working correctly because it expired last month.
Luckily for everyone involved, there was no actual fire and whole thing was literally just a fire drill. Ripa joked, “We feel like we’ve let them down because there is no fire! There’s not even smoke!”
“Thank God for these guys,” Consuelos added, in all seriousness, reminding us all to check the batteries in our smoke detectors every spring and fall.
