Kelly Ripa knows what’s best for their pooch — and Mark Consuelos is just going to have to deal with that.
Their doggy dining discussion on Friday’s Live with Kelly and Mark began when Consuelos read aloud that “scientists prove that dogs judge humans on their competence.”
Ripa teased, “No wonder Chewie always has that look in her eyes.”
Consuelos continued, noting that “they found that dogs are more interested in the humans who perform better at certain tasks.”
“Like what tasks — feeding them probably — rather than those who struggled. Female dogs prove to be the most judgmental!” he shared with a laugh.
On the topic of “total gross incompetence and negligence,” Ripa chimed in to share something she learned from a recent home visit from their vet for Chewie, their eldest dog.
“He said — ready? — always warm up her food. It is more palatable to a dog to have a delicious, warm meal,” she revealed.
This has proven to be a point of contention for the co-host couple, as Ripa told viewers that she and Consuelos “argue over this a lot.”
“I’m like, ‘Let me warm this up.’ And he goes, ‘Don’t be ridiculous. No, just feed it to her like that,'” she explained. “And I’m like, ‘But she likes it better when it’s warm.'”

While Consuelos argued that he “do[es]n’t want to put that in the microwave,” Ripa replied, “I don’t care.” Nonetheless, Consuelos doubled down, noting that “it smells bad.”
Ripa fired back, “Have you ever noticed some of the things you put in the microwave?”
Consuelos offered up “steak” and “hamburger,” though Ripa wasn’t finished.
“Listen, there’s plenty of times you’ve put stuff in there and I’m like, ‘I don’t know what was in here last!'” she quipped.
Consuelos came around, telling Ripa, “If she can eat all that stuff, then I don’t mind putting that in the microwave. That’s a good idea.” After the audience gave a round of applause for Chewie, Ripa claimed that she and Consuelos have engaged in this “warming up the food argument for a year.”
“Because when he’s not around, guess what Mommy does? She warms up the food,” she added. “Then he comes back into town, and Chewie’s like, ‘I’m not eating that. Would you eat this cold eggs, cold lumpy oatmeal, cold kidney specialty food?”
Consuelos insisted that their other dog Lena “eats her food beautifully,” to which Ripa claimed, “Sometimes.”
