Kelly Oubre Jr. suffered broken ribs and several bruises and cuts after being hit by a car Saturday night as a pedestrian, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The 27-year-old 76ers guard was struck near his Center City home and was taken to a Philadelphia hospital before getting released.
Cops told ABC 6 that a silver vehicle fled the scene after Oubre Jr. was hit, and police are investigating the incident.
Though he’s expected to miss significant time, Oubre Jr. is expected to return at some point this season, the team said, according to the Associated Press.
76ers president Daryl Morey was among several team representatives who went to the hospital to be with Oubre Jr., according to ESPN.
Oubre Jr. was hit while crossing the street at Broad and Locusts streets around 7 p.m. Saturday night, police told the Associated Press.
The guard was able to walk to Spruce and Hicks streets, ABC 6 reported, before medics arrived.
Oubre Jr. is in his first season with the 76ers after signing a minimum one-year, $2.9 million contract, despite averaging 20.3 points per game for the Hornets last season.
A big payday wasn’t as important as a chance to compete for an NBA championship, he said.
“It’s something that I think is bigger than me,” Oubre Jr. told the Philadelphia Inquirer last month. “I’ve had to kill my ego over these past couple years and really just find who I am deep down inside. This is what God brought me here to do, and I’m happy to be here.
“I didn’t care about the money,” Oubre Jr. added. “I know what I’m worth and I know what I deserve. But if I have to protect my peace and my soul over the money, I’m going to do that any day of the week. … I had to settle in and be like, listen, I put myself in this position. I have to do something to go to work next year and to put on a jersey.”
Oubre Jr. spent his first three-plus years with the Wizards after he was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, and later played for the Suns and Warriors.
