What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger — and that’s exactly what Kelly Clarkson is reminded of every time she rewatches her American Idol performances.

On Monday afternoon’s (Dec. 18) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson, who won the first season of American Idol in 2002, bonded with her guest Fantasia Barrino, who won the show’s third season in 2004.

“We’re both from the same show. I never thought I’d be doing this. I never even thought I’d be in an Emmy category, you never think you’d be in these categories that we’re in. Is this blowing your mind?” Clarkson asked, to which the actress replied, “It’s like a dream.”

Clarkson later revealed that she was recently “forced” into watching old videos of herself on American Idol.

When asked if she ever does the same thing, Barrino replied, “I do. You know, a good glass of wine always sends me back. I kid you not. I don’t know if you’re like me. I hate watching myself with a passion.”

The “Breakaway” singer then echoed that she “hate[s]” watching herself perform as well, before Barrino joked that she can usually get through it if she’s had a “good glass of [cabernet].”

Meanwhile, Clarkson admitted that she might need something a little stronger when it comes to reliving her early days in the music industry.

“There’s not enough wine in the world,” she quipped. “Literally, I watched it — I had to watch it. Dude, I feel like if I got through that, I can do anything! I was like, ‘I did that!'”

While the duo might share a hatred for watching old clips of themselves, American Idol proved to be a major stepping stone in launching their successful careers.

Clarkson, who has already raked in three Grammys, has now won seven Daytime Emmy Awards over the course of her talk show’s four-season run. Plus, Barrino, who has won one Grammy and starred on Broadway, was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in The Color Purple.
