Kelly Clarkson and Jenna Bush Hager have more in common than hosting shows.
During Monday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the “American Idol” alum and the co-host of “Today With Hoda & Jenna” bonded over their “chubby” phase.
As the women discussed past Halloween costumes, throwback photos of Hager and her twin sister, Barbara Bush, wearing matching blue dresses appeared on the screen behind them.
“We were chubby,” Hager, 41, said, while Clarkson, also 41, responded, “You were not.”
“I don’t think you know what chubby is,” the “Since You Been Gone” singer added.
After Bush said “there was a stage” when she and her sister were overweight, Clarkson added that she has “had many stages” of not being at the weight she desired.
“I love losing weight, but here’s the thing,” the Grammy winner said. “Jeans are so hard when you have a butt and a smaller waist.”
Clarkson has been candid about her weight struggles over the years.

In 2017, she revealed that she wanted to “kill” herself when she got down to her lowest weight.
“When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense,” she told Attitude magazine.
“It was a very dark time for me. I thought the only way out was quitting. I, like, wrecked my knees and my feet because all I would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time.”
The following year, she attributed her drastic weight loss to dietary changes, including organic and non-GMO foods.
“I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up,” she explained to “Extra” at the time.
“I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book, it’s called ‘The Plant Paradox (by Steven R. Gundry, MD).’ It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic.”
Clarkson also shared that working out was not part of her weight loss routine.
“I’m not working out!” she added. “I think people think I’m working out and I’m like, ‘Don’t think I’m going to come play some sport!'”
