Katie Ledecky is one step closer to becoming the most decorated women’s Olympics swimmer ever.

The American star dominated by setting an Olympic record with 15:30.02 to earn the gold medal in the 1500m freestyle final Wednesday in Paris, her 12th career Olympics medal, tying her with Jenny Thompson (USA), Dara Torres (USA), Natalie Coughlin (USA) and Emma McKeon (Australia.)

The gold is the eighth of Ledecky’s Olympic career, tying Thompson for the most ever among female swimmers.

Ledecky, 27, recently won bronze in the 400m freestyle in Paris.

She also won gold in the 1500m during the Tokyo Games three years ago.
