Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election saw a seismic shift in New York’s own political terrain, with support for Trump up nearly universally across the Empire State and massive gains in Gotham itself.
And already New York’s progressive overlords have announced (via a very public temper tantrum) that they nonetheless plan to treat Trump as the enemy.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has formed an “Empire State Freedom Initiative” to battle the “policy and regulatory threats” allegedly incoming when Trump takes office and promises: “You try to harm New Yorkers or roll back their rights, I will fight you every step of the way.”
And Attorney General Tish James says she will “work each and every day to defend Americans, no matter what this new administration throws at us. We are ready to fight back again.”
They made these announcements in a bizarre press conference Wednesday.
To which we can only say: Huh?
Trump is the pro-freedom candidate. On energy, speech, regulation and everything else.
And where exactly is this dynamic duo planning to “fight back” here?
On abortion, which Trump has been pellucidly clear he’s in favor of letting individual states legislate?
On immigration, over which he as chief executive will have huge policy authority no matter what states do?
It’s as internally incoherent as it is politically moronic.

Trump improved his statewide performance over 2020 by almost 12 points.
For Pete’s sake, he did better in the Bronx and Queens — literally two of the most diverse places in the world — by 22 points.
So it’s safe to say New Yorkers agree with him in hugely increasing numbers.

Remember? New Yorkers? Those pesky voters whose interests Hochul and James are supposed to be representing?
Above all, the move shows that Dems. Just. Will. Not. Learn.
They feel entitled to rule, no matter what the election results actually say.
When they lose, their response is undemocratic nonsense like this and naked contempt for the voters themselves.
It’s pure Bertolt Brecht: “Would it not be easier for the government to dissolve the people, and elect another?”
And the further Dems go down this path, the bloodier their losses will be.
