As if her years starring in romcoms and comedies wasn’t enough, Kate Hudson‘s latest TikTok proves one thing: She really has great comedic timing.
The actress shared a TikTok Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening that showed herself and a friend attending Game 5 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Yankee Stadium.
Though the stakes were high – if the Dodgers clinched the game, which they did, they would win the 2024 World Series – that didn’t stop Hudson from recreating a hilariously painful scene from her 2003 romcom How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days where she asks Matthew McConaughey’s character to get her a soda during a heated Knicks game.
In the video, Hudson pesters her friend, who is clearly locked into the game, to get her a soda. “Can you get me a soda?” she asks her.
“No,” the friend quickly replies.
Hudson then taps her and repeats herself, asking, “No, like can you go get me a soda?”
“Like right now?” her friend responds. When Hudson confirms, her friend is quick to shut her down: “No.”
Her friend is a lot less patient than McConaughey’s character, Benjamin, who eventually relents and rushes to get her a soda.
The rom-com follows Hudson’s character, a magazine reporter named Andie, who tries to figure out how to get a guy to leave you in 10 days for a new story. But she’s met her match in Ben, who is trying to prove a point of his own: That he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days.
In the iconic scene, Andie, in an effort to further annoy Ben and drive him away, asks him to go back and get her another soda because the one he bought isn’t “diet.” He eventually does, causing him to miss the end of the game.
Hudson noted in the caption of her TikTok that the moment occurred during “game 5” with “bases loaded.” And this would have been a terrible game to miss for a soda. The Dodgers ended up beating the Yankees, 7 to 6.
Fans were rejoicing in the comments of the video, which now has 1.6 million likes. “Do people understand how ICONIC THIS IS,” one fan wrote.
Another top comment on the video said, “This movie taught me to never be a man’s peace.”
Hudson has previously said that she and McConaughey are certainly open to returning for a sequel.
“I think they’re always thinking about that. All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script,” she said during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “I think we’re both totally open but it just never has happened.”
