Kadarius Toney isn’t letting his own poor performance stop him from good, old-fashioned schadenfreude.
Toney, the former Giants bust who landed on the Chiefs last season, had a number of drops in the NFL season opener Thursday, including one that led directly to a pick-six for the Lions in their 21-20 win.
He must have felt particularly picked on by Giants fans because after Big Blue got crushed 40-0 by the Cowboys on Sunday night, Toney took to Instagram and posted photos of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley looking dejected as the Cowboys were celebrating.
“Na Don’t get quiet now,” Toney wrote in the caption.
The Giants selected Toney with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he was shipped out of town by Halloween of his second season as hamstring injuries limited his dependability.
The Chiefs traded the Giants a third-round compensatory pick and a sixth-round pick for the wideout.
Toney had seven catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs last season amid the Chiefs’ Super Bowl championship run.
More than any other factor, Toney’s drops cost the Chiefs the first game in their title defense Thursday.
Toney’s evening was so bad that his 29.7 receiver grade on Pro Football Focus was the football analytics group’s worst rating at the position since 2018.
Nevertheless, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes maintained outward confidence in Toney.
“I have trust in [Toney],” Mahomes said after the game. “He missed a lot of training camp, and obviously he wanted to play and fought [during] rehab hard so he could play and stuff’s not always going to go your way.”
