A diehard K-Pop fan has been accused of misusing a boarding pass to access an area of Singapore’s main airport reserved for travelers so she could meet a boy band said to be Enhypen.
The 25-year-old woman was arrested on Jan. 22 at Changi Airport, after she allegedly purchased a plane ticket without ever intending to board a flight.
The woman’s real goal, according to the police, was to obtain a boarding pass that would allow her to enter the airport’s transit area to try to catch a glimpse her favorite band, identified by the Singaporean news outlet The Strait Times as the popular South Korean group Enhypen.
The “Polaroid Love” septet had played two shows in Singapore on Jan. 20 and 21.
The K-Pop enthusiast, who has not been identified, was taken into custody because she had no plans to leave Singapore when she bought the airline ticket, police said.
She is facing a charge of misusing a boarding pass to enter protected places in the airport under a law passed in 2017, which is punishable by up to two years in jail, and/or a fine of up to $20,000.
“As there will be concerts featuring international artistes and pop groups to be held in Singapore over the next few months, the police would like to remind members of the public that the transit areas of Changi Airport are [designated] as Protected Places,” the police said.
Last year, police in Singapore arrested 23 people for misusing boarding passes to enter the airport’s transit areas for reasons other than to travel out of the country.
