A 16-year-old boy who allegedly crashed a stolen car in Manhattan over the Fourth of July weekend — killing two of his friends and injuring four others — has been charged with manslaughter over the multi-vehicle wreck, police said Wednesday.
The teenager, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested Wednesday and hit with a slew of charges — including two counts of manslaughter and two counts of criminally negligent homicide — in the July 3 rollover crash, cops said.
Police said the young driver was speeding north on Audubon Avenue in a stolen 2019 Hyundai Elantra loaded up with four passengers around 7 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.
The barreling car T-boned a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee heading west on West 179th Street, causing the SUV to spin around, blocking the intersection, cops said.
But the joyriding teen kept going — heading north on Audubon Avenue and slamming into an empty 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The impact caused the Hyundai sedan to flip over, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving two parked cars.
Two of the passengers in the sedan, identified as Daniel Duran, 15, and Daniel Rodriguez, 17, both of the Bronx, were hospitalized but didn’t survive.
Two other passengers, both 15-year-old boys, were also hospitalized after the metal carnage, and initially listed in critical condition.
The teen driver was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, cops said.
First responders had to cut the roof off the Hyundai to get the boys out of the car.
The 53-year-old driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was taken to Harlem Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 16-year-old driver was also charged with 10 counts of assault, six counts of criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief and two counts of reckless endangerment, police said.
