Joy Behar is used to cracking jokes at the Hot Topics table after her career as a stand-up comedian, but one of her funniest moments to date on The View came entirely by accident this morning.
While discussing Valentine’s Day advice from a sex therapist who recommended couples skip the hookup altogether this holiday, Behar offered her own tips to have a successful V-Day.
“My recommendation is, you don’t go for the big meal until later. First you do a matinee in the afternoon — matinee is key to good sex — a martini, empty stomach. No eating,” she said sternly.
Whoopi Goldberg then chimed in, “If you don’t drink, there are other options,” as Behar not-so-subtly mimed smoking a joint.
Goldberg reiterated, “Just saying, not everybody drinks,” which is when the conversation began to take a turn for the absurd.
With a knowing look, Behar told the audience, “You can go the Whoopi Goldberg route. We all know what that is, and get yourself in the mood.”
“Not a drink, but some other … ” she continued, pausing before saying, “opioid.”
Goldberg’s face, which had been fixed in a pretty neutral expression up until this point, shifted into a horrified look as she furrowed her brow, mouth agape. Sara Haines exclaimed, “Not an opioid!” as Behar folded herself over the table in laughter.
Sunny Hostin jumped in too, correcting her by suggesting she meant “some other enhancement.”
Behar knew she had screwed up too as she insisted, “I didn’t mean that,” while a stunned Goldberg covered her head with her hands as if she couldn’t take any more of the chaos around the table caused, yet again, by Behar’s words.
When she recovered, she lifted her head from her hands and called out producer Brian Teta, who was at his usual post in front of the studio audience.
“This is what you get for forcing me into this,” she scolded him, as Behar chimed in, “and me, too!”

The camera then panned to Teta, who had his hand over his forehead, shaking his head in disbelief.
Haines swiftly shifted the conversation back to “the kids,” and how Valentine’s Day is really for them, but the opioid remark found its way into The View‘s next segment, too.
As guest Amy Schumer joined the Hot Topics table, she told the co-hosts, “I can’t believe I missed the opioid and sex segment… save some action for me.”
Later in her View interview, Schumer professed her love for Goldberg as Behar remarked, “It’s a love fest today,” then quipped, “the opioids are kicking in!”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
