Wednesday was National Text Your Ex Day, a subject that brought up a lot of opinions among the panelists on The View. While Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines revealed that they keep in touch with their exes, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin were opposed to doing so, citing the fact that some of their old relationships ended badly. But the biggest shock in the ex conversation came a few minutes later.
Toward the end of the episode, Haines revealed that her parents were in the audience that day. That’s when Behar decided to bring up an awkward subject (awkward, at least, for on-air discussion in front of millions of viewers), Haines’s previous same-sex relationship that her parents didn’t presumably know about.
After Haines introduced her parents in the show’s final moments, Behar quipped, “Are you gonna bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had or not? Back at Smith [College]?”
Haines laughed heartily, calling out to her father, “Dad, earmuffs!” before Griffin said, “That was off air she told us that.” Hostin then added, “Now, it’s on air.”
“It’s a good thing my dad doesn’t always watch. Now he does,” Haines said.
Haines has been married to her husband, Max Shifrin, for ten years.

Though everyone got a chuckle out of Behar’s awkward non-sequitur, including Haines’ parents, Goldberg immediately tried to pivot the conversation so additional secrets wouldn’t be revealed, thanking their audience for their support before signing off for the day.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
