The View resumed its typical election talk this morning as Americans begin early voting and the nation eagerly (and anxiously) awaits Election Day. On today’s show, the panel chatted about Vice President Kamala Harris‘ Oct. 29 speech in Washington, D.C., in which she urged voters not to cast their ballots for “unstable” Donald Trump.
Whoopi Goldberg said Harris’ speech — which also included promises of listening to people who disagree with her and uniting the country — was just what she was wanting to hear. Meanwhile, Joy Behar pivoted to Trump’s remarks about “the enemy within,” which were essentially the opposite of what Harris said last night.
“He’s talking about Americans, he’s talking about us,” Behar said. “In 1970 … I’m referring to the Kent State Killings. In 1970, the National Guard was brought out by Richard Nixon to kill kids from Kent State University because they were protesting.
“They shot our children,” she continued. “The National Guard, Americans shot American children. When he says ‘the enemy from within,’ that is what it evokes in my mind. That they will be shooting kids who are protesting on campuses. I protested against the Vietnam War. I went to Washington. He would have shot me.”
“Remember that,” she added, “Remember Kent State when you hear ‘the enemy within.'”

Even former Trump employee and the table’s resident Republican (along with Ana Navarro) Alyssa Farah Griffin admitted she felt “emotional” listening to Harris’ comments, which were delivered from the very same spot where Trump spoke on Jan. 6.
“This imagery of standing and reclaiming that space, also showing a woman in front of the White House looking presidential, I think was incredibly powerful,” Griffin said, noting that Harris’ “message” struck her most after Trump failed to court Nikki Haley supporters like herself.
“She’s saying she wants to be a president for all Americans,” Griffin said of Harris, while she slammed Trump for “spewing lies” and “teeing up another Jan. 6.”
