The View got heated as the panel continued to discuss the ever-evolving situation in Israel, where militants attacked the Gaza-Israel border and murdered over 1,000 people over the weekend.
While discussing President Joe Biden‘s Tuesday (Oct. 10) remarks about the conflict — in which he said the terrorist group Hamas carried out “an act of sheer evil” — the co-hosts sparred over human rights and ethics.
“The only people that are to blame for this are Hamas,” Ana Navarro declared, adding that the group is “holding Gaza hostage” and warning, “we’re about to see more carnage.”
Joy Behar chimed in, “Someone gave them money and weaponry to do it,” while Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “Iran very likely did back this.”
Sunny Hostin then told Navarro she had heard similar information as her co-host and she understands “the anger that there is there,” before adding, “We need to also recognize that the Palestinians that are there now that are descendants of refugees have not had a democratic election since 2007.”
Behar interrupted, “That’s because of Hamas,” while Hostin clarified, “They did not vote in Hamas, and so when you look at international human rights law — I’m just putting my legal hat on. This is not the Sunny hat — I understand the anger, but when you decide to retaliate collectively against a people, that is also in violation of human rights law.”
Griffin cut in, “But Hamas uses its people as human shields,” as Hostin added, “We have to look at some restraint here,” but she was spoken over by Behar, who told her, “The Israelis are warning all of the civilians … ‘We’re coming in, get out of the area.’ Hamas did nothing of the kind.”
Hostin replied, “And I agree, and they must continue to do that,” but the rest of her point was lost to the multiple voices beginning to speak around the panel, as Navarro, Behar and Hostin all tried to get a word in.

While Navarro could be heard saying, “The problem is that Hamas runs Gaza,” Behar had tired of the chaos and sent the show to commercial.
“We have to go. We have to go,” she said, waving her hand and shaking her head as the segment wrapped on a decidedly unresolved note.
