Colt McCoy is officially hanging up his cleats and picking up a mic.

The journeyman NFL quarterback confirmed his retirement after 14 years on Monday, the same day NBC Sports revealed he’s joining the network as an analyst for Big Ten college football coverage.

Captioning a post on Instagram, “Thank you football!” McCoy — who starred at the University of Texas before being selected 85th overall by the Browns in 2010 — shared a slideshow of photographs chronicling his football journey.

“Excited for the next chapter,” the 37-year-old wrote in a separate post promoting an Underdog Original feature about his career.

A two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, McCoy spent three seasons in Cleveland and was named the starter in 2011, before being traded to the 49ers in April 2013.

A year after landing in San Francisco, McCoy signed with Washington in April 2014 and served as a backup for Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith and Case Keenum for much of his six years with the team.

McCoy spent one lone season with the Giants in 2020 and arrived in Arizona a year later.

He signed a two-year contract extension with the Cardinals in 2022 but was released in August 2023 and did not play last season.

In 56 career games, McCoy threw for 7,975 yards, 34 touchdowns and 32 interceptions, completing 62.6 percent of his passes.

Now officially closing the NFL chapter of his story, McCoy is eager to share the “passion, excitement, and competitive spirit” of college football with NBC viewers this season.

“College Football has always held a special place in my heart. With the expansion of the Big Ten and new era of College Football, it is the perfect time to join NBC Sports,” McCoy said in a statement.

McCoy, who called USFL games for the network last season, will appear on the “Big Ten College Countdown” show, in addition to his duties as a game analyst.

He will make his debut on Sept. 7 when Nebraska hosts Colorado.
