Could we soon see the medical crew from Doctor Odyssey helping out the team on 9-1-1? Hopefully, if Joshua Jackson has anything to say about it.

Ahead of the special 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey crossover with Angela Bassett boarding the luxury cruise ship, Jackson sat down with DECIDER to chat about welcoming the actress to set and the chance that the two shows could collide again in the future.

In “Casino Week,” Bassett’s Athena Grant enlists Dr. Max (Jackson) as she suspects two of The Odyssey’s passengers are up to no good. Unfortunately for 9-1-1 fanatics, Bassett is the only character from the show to appear in the episode, but that just makes Jackson and his co-stars more excited at the prospect of visiting dry land to assist the LAPD and the 118.

“She came into our world for this crossover, and I think it would be absolutely hysterical to take The Odyssey crew to 9-1-1 and just to have us in our sparkly whites, show up and be like, ‘Hey, we’re here to help. What’s going on?'” he said as Sean Teale, his Doctor Odyssey co-star, let out a laugh. “See them try to deal with us.”

The two shows both come from executive producer Ryan Murphy and walk the line between comedy and drama, often leaning into the ludicrous to create wild situations for their respective ensembles. For 9-1-1, that includes scenarios like the “Bee-Nado” and the “Poseidon Adventure,” the latter of which included Bassett’s character aboard a cruise ship caught in the middle of a major storm, one that eventually overturns the vessel. In the case of Doctor Odyssey, absurdist storylines include noses falling off and surprise threesome pregnancies.

The shared vibe between the shows made for an interesting and easy integration with Bassett joining the cast, Jackson said. The actor could not shower his “Casino Week” co-star with enough praise for seamlessly blending in and making it fun for all involved.

“Having Miss Angela Bassett on set was magical, and she’s wonderful in all the ways that you possibly imagine,” the Dawson’s Creek alum said of the episodic one-off. “If you don’t get a chance to work with her, you don’t just get to feel the presence and the warmth and the joy and the grace that she brings to it. So that was fantastic.”

And since the Doctor Odyssey cast had so much fun working with Bassett — and due to 9-1-1‘s ability to always up the ante with their storylines — he could not be more hopeful that they will soon appear on their sister series. Especially because they have so much to learn from them.

Jackson added, “But the Bee-nado and Poseidon Adventure, [when the cruise ship] flipped upside down, they just — we got nothing on them. They do disaster.

The 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey crossover episode airs at 9 p.m. local on March 20. New episodes of Doctor Odyssey air Thursdays at 9 p.m. local and stream the next day on Hulu.
