Noteworthy items from the Yankees’ Grapefruit League action on Saturday:  

Josh VanMeter, a non-roster infielder trying to make the club, blasted his first home run of the spring 348 feet to right field off Jorge Alcalá.

Oddanier Mosqueda, a 24-year-old lefty who has been solid in camp, allowed his first run in his fifth spring inning. Two of the three hits he allowed against the Twins, though, were grounded singles that found holes.

On a windy and sunny afternoon that continually frustrated fielders, Anthony Volpe tracked a pop-up onto the grass behind second base and made a last-second dive and catch for a fifth-inning out.

Clarke Schmidt will get the start when the Yankees host the Braves in Tampa.
