Both Jordan Love and his wife, Ronika Stone, were thrilled about the Micah Parsons trade that added another jolt to the Packers — a much-needed one in a competitive NFC North, too — less than two weeks before Week 1.
In the immediate aftermath of the Cowboys ending a saga by sending their superstar edge rusher to Green Bay, Love shared an ESPN post reporting the deal on his Instagram story and added three flame emojis, while Stone posted a picture to her story of Love and Athletes First agent David Mulugheta — who also represents Parsons — at what appeared to be a wedding with the caption, “Mood.”
She also tagged Mulugheta, who was one of the agents negotiating the $220 million extension that moved Love into a tie as the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Other reactions from around the sport poured in following the stunning deal, including star Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb posting an emoji with a tear running down its face.
Love recently said on the “Up & Adams” show that he recruited Parsons “a little bit” this offseason after the pair were on a podcast together, and they’ll now have a chance to share the same field for the next few years after the Cowboys acquired two first-round picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark in exchange for Parsons.
The Cowboys’ contract drama with Parsons reached a breaking point this summer, when he was a hold-in at training camp, requested a trade, exchanged jabs with owner Jerry Jones in statements and press conferences, ate nachos at a preseason game and dealt with a back injury.
They could never reach an agreement on an extension for Parsons — a first-round pick in the 2021 draft who has collected 52.5 sacks across his first few seasons — before the trade, but the Packers handed him a four-year, $188 million deal with $120 million fully guaranteed at signing.
The Packers went 11-6 last year and lost in the wild-card round, but they’re expected to compete for the division title — with the Lions and Vikings — and a playoff seed with Love, who threw for 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns last year, as their signal-caller.
