Jonathan Quick turned back the clock on Friday night, and the Rangers reaped the rewards early on in their game against the Panthers.
Just a little over five minutes into their matchup in Florida, the veteran netminder did his job with aplomb, making back-to-back saves, the latter of which might end up as one of the best stops of the 2023-24 NHL season.
Quick, 37, played the puck behind the net and looked to pass to defenseman K’Andre Miller, who then tried to make a pass to partner Jacob Trouba.
But Florida’s forechecking proved too much and forward Nick Cousins skated right in on net, getting a shot off before Quick stoned him with an outstretched right pad.
But Eetu Luostarinen trailed the play and got off a perfect rebound shot, but somehow, Quick stopped him as well as he stuck up his left leg with his head turned the wrong way, denying what looked like a sure-fire goal.
It was another high point for Quick, who already was having an incredible night for the Rangers.
Coming into the night, Quick had a 9-1-1 record with a .920 save percentage and 2.27 goals-against average during his first 12 games with the Rangers.
