At the start of the day, Jon Rahm was over 10 shots behind leader Brian Harman at The Open championship.
All it took to get back within spitting distance was a course record at Royal Liverpool.
Rahm shot an 8-under 63, smashing the course record of 65 and coming within a shot of Branden Grace’s Open record of 62, recorded in 2017 at Royal Birkdale.
Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele tied Grace for the lowest round in major championship history with a pair of 62s at Los Angeles Country Club in this year’s U.S. Open.
Rahm was two-under through the front nine before doing almost all his damage on the back end.
The Spaniard shot six birdies in nine holes and finished the round without a bogey, moving a six-under for the tournament.
Currently, that equates to a tie for second, just three shots off Harman, who bogeyed his first hole on Saturday.
Tommy Fleetwood is also in the mix at six-under, with the rest of the pack currently behind.
