Landman is turning out to be another hit for the Sheridan-verse on Paramount+. But Jon Hamm had no idea what he was signing up for when he agreed to star in Taylor Sheridan’s mysterious new series.
During a recent appearance at Sundance Film Festival, Hamm explained that Sheridan first approached him about the role in 2016, though the project wasn’t nearly ready yet.
“Nine years later, from our first meeting at Sundance, Taylor had something for me, and it was Landman,” he said, per Entertainment Weekly. “I signed onto this project with no script — nothing but the idea of what it was going to be — and Billy Bob Thornton.”
He continued, “And I said, ‘Sure I’m in! Yes, sir, I’ll do that.’… That man is a national treasure of — what nation, I do not know!”
The exciting new series is set in the world of West Texas oil rigs, where Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, a fixer who works for an oil tycoon (Hamm), juggling the surprisingly dangerous elements of his job — including the cartel — with his own family responsibilities.

Hamm’s intuition paid off. The show will likely be renewed for a second season. Though the news has not officially been confirmed, Demi Moore seemingly hinted at it during a recent public appearances at the Cannes Film Festival.
“I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year,” she revealed, per Deadline.
Hamm’s Monty was killed off in the dramatic Season 1 finale, which means the actor will likely not be returning in a substantial role in Season 2. But it could be setting up a major character arc for Moore, who played his wife.
Hamm will next star in the new Apple TV+ drama Your Friends & Neighbors, which premieres April 11 on the streamer.
Landman Season 1 is streaming now on Paramount+.
