Angel Reese is even catching criticism during MLB games.
The Chicago Sky forward was mentioned Tuesday night on the Phillies broadcast during a mundane victory over the White Sox.
Play-by-play man Tom McCarthy — with the Phillies up 6-0 — was sending birthday wishes to his former high school basketball teammate Bob Wyskowski.
McCarthy used this opportunity to throw a jab at his friend.
“He was a heck of a basketball player,” McCarthy said. “Played at Rider and Monmouth. It’s all because I missed a lot of shots and he cleaned them up.”
Analyst and former Phillies slugger John Kruk would use those comments by McCarthy to take his shot at Reese.
“I don’t want to say anything, but there’s someone here in Chicago that does that a lot,” Kruk said.
“That is true, she gets her points,” McCarthy responded.
“She gets her rebounds, too,” Kruk added.
Kruk’s comment was aimed at Reese’s recent coining of the term “Mebounds”.
She uses that term to describe her ability to rebound her own misses, which detractors point out helps pad her stats.
“We’ll be getting some tweets about that, I’m sure,” Kruk said.
He was right.
Reese did not let the comments by Kruk slide, even though she was in the middle of her own game when the comments were made.
“Clout is one helluva DRUG. like it really gets to a point,” Reese wrote on X in a seeming response to Kruk after the story made its rounds after scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the Sky’s 103-86 loss to the Mystics.
Reese then turned to TikTok to further vent.
“To anybody that’s been mean to me, and you’re having a hard time in life, good,” mouthed Reese.
While criticism about her finishing ability at the rim has followed her throughout her time in the WNBA, Reese has established herself as one of the best rebounders in the league.
She tallied the most double-doubles by a rookie at 26. This season, she became the fastest player to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds.
