The Sixers believe Joel Embiid wants to be mentioned in the same breath as Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki.
After the reigning NBA MVP recently made headlines for saying he wants to win a championship in Philadelphia or “anywhere else,” members of the 76ers organization came out and said that despite those recent comments by Embiid, the center would like to stay with the team for his entire career per The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
“As for the question of whether Embiid might be trying to leave Philly anytime soon, a high-ranking Sixers source told The Athletic that Embiid or his representatives have not shared any such message with the team,” Amick said in a tweet. “In fact, the organization’s belief remains that Embiid would love to go the way of Dirk Nowitzki or Kobe Bryant and stay with one team for his entire career.”
The modern NBA is one in which superstars switching teams is as expected as the sun rising in the morning and setting in the evening.
However, some of the most legendary names in the game have stuck it out with one franchise throughout all the highs and lows – the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki and Spurs’ Tim Duncan are some of the greats to play for only one team in their careers.
Those players are inextricably tied to their franchise’s history not only because of their longevity with the team while also playing well, but also because they have helped their respective franchises win championships.
Through seven years with the team after missing the first two due to injury, Embiid certainly has played like an all-time great.
The third-overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft has made six All-Star appearances, five All-NBA teams, three All-Defensive squads, and most recently, he claimed the long-coveted league MVP trophy.

Embiid certainly is on track to match the heights of Bryant, Nowitzki and Duncan with the personal accolades — but an NBA championship would truly cement his status among the greats.
