Joe Namath has some thoughts on the Jets’ quarterback situation.
The NFL legend questioned Gang Green’s coaching staff as third-year quarterback Zach Wilson struggled through a tough first half against the New England Patriots during Sunday’s 15-10 loss.
“I’m starting to wonder if Zach’s playing like he’s being coached,” Namath said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “He’s making choices that are not intuitive to the quarterback position.”
The Jets mustered three points through two quarters as Wilson threw for just 29 yards in that span.
Wilson finished with 157 yards while completing 18-of-36 passes.
He did not throw a touchdown pass.
Broadway Joe was a big supporter of Aaron Rodgers, who suffered an Achilles tear during the Jets’ season opener, coming into the season.
But after the devastating injury, Namath was quick to throw his weight behind Wilson.
“Realistically, the way Rodgers left the field I don’t expect him to come back tonight,” Namath tweeted Sept. 11 during the Jets’ opener. “So let’s stay positive. I’m glad we have Zach to come in and I’m glad he’s had the tutelage that he’s had with Aaron,” Namath wrote. “I hope he’s got his scrambling shoes on tonight!! GO JETS!!!”
Namath was touched by Rodgers’ decision against wearing his retired iconic No. 12.
“That was warm, that touched my heart a bit, that shows something about the man. He has a way about him, a lot of respect for the past. I was humbly grateful, you know what I mean? It felt good. It made me like [him] even more,” Namath told The Post with a laugh. “First time I met him I liked him, and I’ll tell you what, I’ve not seen anybody play better than him the times over the last 10, 15 years I’ve been watching.”
