NextImg:Joe Burrow trending toward starting Week 1 for Bengals: ‘Ready to go’

The Bengals do not appear as though they will be without Joe Burrow for their NFL season opener.

Burrow was cleared for a full day of practice on Wednesday, after returning on a limited basis on Aug. 30, following a calf strain injury sustained in late July.

While Bengals head coach Zac Taylor declined to name Burrow the starter for Sunday’s Week 1 tilt against the AFC North rival Browns, if you read between the lines it’s a reasonable assumption.

“He looks good,” Taylor said, according to ESPN. “I think it’s wise to take it day-to-day right now.”

But in Burrow’s mind, there is no doubt he will be in the huddle Sunday.

“I’m ready to go. I’m expecting to play,” Burrow told reporters Wednesday.

Bengals (and fantasy football) fans panicked in July when Burrow suffered an apparent non-contact injury and left practice on a cart.

Burrow, 26, being ready for Week 1 is a welcome relief.

Although Burrow’s rookie contract is set to expire after the 2024 season, he does not expect to be leaving the Bengals.

“That’s the last thing I’m thinking about. I’m thinking about beating the Browns right now. … It comes when it comes. I’m not worried about it,” Burrow said.

“This is where I want to be. This is where I want to be for my whole career. We’re working towards making that happen.”

The Bengals have gone 22-10 in Burrow’s starts the last two seasons, both of which saw Cincinnati reach the AFC Championship Game, culminating in an appearance in Super Bowl LVI.

Burrow and the Bengals lost their title chance, 23-20, to the Los Angeles Rams.
