Jimmy Kimmel would like to take the Associated Press’ spot in the White House press corps.
The late night host requested an invitation to the White House during his Live opening monologue Wednesday when he shared clips of Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin’s meeting with President Donald Trump.
“Most of Trump’s meetings now take place in front of press because why be off TV when you could be on it?” Kimmel began. While mainstream media outlets such as the Associated Press are blocked from attending these meetings, reporters such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend Brian Glenn, who serves as chief White House correspondent for Real America’s Voice, have become very vocal members of the press corps.
“Since the White House kicked out the Associated Press, they’ve made spots for friendlier outlets, which is a decision that has created a buffet of buffoonery,” Kimmel continued. “Much of it from a gentleman who happens to be the boyfriend of Marjorie Taylor Greene. He’s the one who asked Zelenskyy, ‘Why aren’t you wearing a suit?'”
Kimmel then shared a clip from Trump’s meeting, where Glenn complimented Prime Minister Martin’s suit and asked, “Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people, great attitude… why in the world did you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? She’s just going to lower your happiness level.”
The late night host pointed out that, if the White House is inviting “stupid questions,” he would like to be included.
“If they’re gonna allow stupid questions to be asked at the White House, I would like them to invite me to ask some stupid questions,” he said. “Mr. President, I’m with ABC. When you’re on the toilet, do you ever look down and cry?”
He also pointed out that Glenn seems to have reignited Trump’s feud with O’Donnell. In the clip, Trump told Glenn he liked his question about O’Donnell. He also told PM Martin he was “better off not knowing” who O’Donnell is.
“This feud with Rosie has been going on longer than me and Matt Damon,” Kimmel quipped.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
