Donald Trump‘s team is denying the new allegations that he reportedly chatted with Vladimir Putin multiple times after leaving the White House. But Jimmy Kimmel is not buying it.
“Team Trump says it’s all lies, Tsar-A-Lago released a forceful statement calling it the ‘Work of a truly demented and deranged man,'” Kimmel said. But he noted, “It’s kind of funny because the Kremlin confirmed Trump sent the Covid test and denied they’ve had phone calls since he left office, so we don’t know which one is telling the truth.”
Kimmel later took aim at J.D. Vance for denying the seriousness of the claims at a recent public appearance. Trump’s running mate, whom Kimmel dubbed “Maybeline brand ambassador,” asked his supporters in a clip shared on Live, “Even if it’s true, is there something wrong with speaking to world leaders?”
“First of all, yes. And second, yes,” Kimmel responded.
He continued, “It’s very wrong to have chats with dictators who are trying to exterminate our allies when you aren’t the president anymore. For the same reason you don’t throw a birthday party for Diddy, OK?”
Kimmel also highlighted the fact that the phone calls allegedly took place after Trump left the White House.
“In addition to being inappropriate, it’s illegal under the Logan Act for private citizens to engage in foreign policy that undercuts America,” he said.
The late night host has previously pointed out just how connected Trump and Diddy are amidst the former rapper’s mounting legal troubles and sexual assault allegations. In a recent broadcast, he unearthed a clip from Celebrity Apprentice where Trump called Diddy “a good guy” and “a good friend of mine.”
“Is he a good guy?” he asked singer Aubrey O’Day, who previously worked for the music mogul when she was a part of the R&B girl group Danity Kane.
“I don’t want to answer that question,” she shyly replied.
In the clip, Trump did not appear phased by O’Day’s reaction. “Oh, well I think he’s a good guy. I’m gonna stand up for him,” he responded.
The irony of the clip drew laughs from the audience as Kimmel noted, “Well, to be fair he also thinks Kim Jong-un is a good guy, so only the best, people.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
