Jimmy Kimmel called President Trump out for pressuring CBS to settle the “frivolous” lawsuit he filed against the company following Kamala Harris‘ 60 Minutes interview during the election.
On Live, Kimmel shared that Trump is suing CBS and Paramount over the interview, claiming it “caused him ‘mental anguish.'”
“If he can sue them for mental anguish, imagine how much we can sue him for,” Kimmel quipped.
The late night host defended the company against Trump and his legal team, who he noted upped their demands to include $25 million and ” an apology for not doing anything wrong.”
“They edited the interview just like they always do. But Trump, who never misses an opportunity to A. whine, and B. abuse the legal system, claimed based on no evidence that 60 Minutes edited the interview deceptively to make his opponent look better,” Kimmel said. “He sued them for $10 billion and then, even though he won the election, he raised it to $20 billion. The whole company isn’t even worth $20 billion! They’re selling it for [$8 billion] right now.”
Kimmel then explained that Paramount is hoping to settle the lawsuit to prevent Trump from “vindictively” blocking the sale of the company through the FCC.
“It’s just like the mafia but with cheeseburgers instead of gabagool,” he quipped.
But the ongoing lawsuit reminded Kimmel that Trump is applying even more pressure on CBS than our foreign enemies. “He’s squeezing CBS harder than he’s squeezing Russia,” Kimmel joked.
Kimmel has long criticized Trump’s relationship with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
During a recent broadcast, he joked that we are living in a “historic era” after Pope Leo XIV was elected.
“Congratulations to him. This is a historic era we are living in,” Kimmel said. “We have an American Pope and a Russian president. Isn’t it incredible?”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
