Jimmy Kimmel roasted First Lady Melania Trump and President Trump‘s so-called “date night” to see Les Misérable at the Kennedy Center this week, saying she was only attending as is “required” by their prenuptial agreement.
Kimmel shared photos of the first couple’s appearance on Live, where they looked less than thrilled to be walking the red carpet together. He joked that Melania attended because their prenuptial agreement “required” her to make “no less than two public appearances per calendar year, during which she should refrain from open displays of revulsion, disgust, and/or hatred regardless of current mood… also known as date night for them.”
He also dubbed the lovebirds “Don Valjean and Lady Misérable.”
“That is the look of a couple that realized they have to sit next to each other for three hours,” Kimmel said.
Wednesday night’s performance marks the first show Trump has attended at the Kennedy Center since seizing control of the cultural institution. At the start of his presidency, he appointed himself as chairman of the board and installed several of his own picks to lead the Kennedy Center, leading many to boycott the institution.
President Trump’s appearance also coincided with his decision to send the National Guard and Marines to squash the anti-ICE protests happening in Los Angeles, a point which was not lost on Kimmel.
He explained on Live that, while act 2 of Les Misérable typically shows “the people standing up against their king,” but President Trump “called in the National Guard and squashed the whole thing” after act 1 that evening.
Kimmel also shared images of Vice President J.D. Vance and Usha Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and “his hostage” Cheryl Hines, and Attorney General Pam Bondi walking the red carpet at the Kennedy Center.
“It’s like the Tony Awards for the people who want to take away the rights of everyone at the Tony Awards,” Kimmel joked.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
