Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted the Academy Awards five times now, had many thoughts to share about the 2025 Oscars ceremony during Monday’s (Mar. 3) Live episode. He most notably took aim at the most talked about moments of the evening: Adrien Brody‘s unbelievably long acceptance speech.
“According to the Guinness Book of World Records, he gave the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history, even longer than the free form poetry dram Will Smith did after karate slapping Chris Rock,” Kimmel joked.
Brody won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist, besting Ralph Fiennes, Sebastian Stan, Timothée Chalamet, and Colman Domingo in the category.
And he certainly took his time on the Oscars stage to savor the moment. Kimmel pointed out that Brody even dismissed the Oscars band twice during his acceptance speech when they tried to play him off stage, a cue that usually means your time is up.
“Brody’s speech was so long he got played off the stage twice. The first time the band tried to play him off, he told them to stop, they stopped. Who knew you could even do that?” Kimmel questioned, adding that Brody then spoke for “another minute and a half.”
Kimmel then pointed out that A Real Pain star Kieran Culkin gave “the best speech of the night.”
Culkin used his acceptance speech to remind his wife that she promised him just last year that she would have another child if he ever won the Oscar.
According to Kimmel, Brody’s acceptance speech gave the Culkin family enough time to make good on that deal.
“We have good news: Adrien Brody’s speech went on so long the Culkins were able to conceive and deliver a six-pound baby girl,” Kimmel joked. “Her name’s Anora, Anora Culkin.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
