Jimmy Kimmel took some time early in Monday night’s Live opening monologue to talk about Jeff Bezos‘s Blue Origin rocket that launched earlier that morning in Van Horn, Texas.

The launch was initially notable for its all-female crew, which included pop star Katy Perry, broadcast journalist Gayle King, and Bezos’s fiancée, journalist Lauren Sánchez, among others. However, Kimmel made it clear that the venture is even more memorable due to its overall absurdity.

The late night host jokingly celebrated the “first group of women ever to visit outer space in a giant penis.”

The phallic, or “personal massager,”-shaped rocket was in the air for only about 10 minutes, capped off by an elegant, scream-filled descent to Earth, he said.

After playing footage of the launch, which included the descent (when the passengers could be heard loudly yelling from inside the vessel), Kimmel joked, “I’m glad we’ve reached the point where hearing screaming from inside a space capsule is a good thing.”

The footage also showed that Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner were in attendance to see the event, which prompted Kimmel to joke, “Wow, you know it’s a historic moment when they send two Kardashians out to witness it!”

Kimmel then showed a clip of Perry’s post-flight interview, in which she talked dreamily about how she feels more connected to love than ever. “Is it possible that Katy popped a mushroom when she was up there?” Kimmel commented.

He then quipped, “That’s the kind of interview you usually see after dental surgery or something. That’s the kind of thing you see at Coachella.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
